The "Hamburg Jacket"

The Beatles iconic leather look was born in September 1960 when George Harrison bought a black leather jacket from a waiter in Hamburg, Germany for 5 Pounds Sterling. Admiring the new coat, John and Pete tracked down the shop that originally sold George’s jacket and picked up similar versions for themselves. Not to be left out, Paul soon followed suit and the look was complete.
The Beatles’ black leathers were worn almost exclusively on stage and off from late 1960 through early 1962. Most early pre-fame images of the Beatles feature them wearing the iconic “Hamburg leathers.” Beatlesuits.com was given access to George Harrison’s original jacket before it sold at auction by Bonhams auction house in 2012 for $145,000. Our replica pattern was created directly from our notes, measurements, and images of the original.

The outer shell is made of butter-soft black leather with a black knit collar insert and black knit sleeve cuffs. The zippered front features two lower pockets and both a front and back yolk seam. The black quilted inside lining is accented with an interior breast pocket on the left side, all identical to George’s original coat.
The Hamburg jacket is offered in sizes:

Small (36), Medium (38/40),
Large (42), and XLarge (44/46).
As with all of our garments, it is exchangeable for size
and fully refundable for any reason.
