"The Sgt. Pepper drumhead we made for History For Hire (L.A. film prop house) in 2007. This was a full size (30") drumhead hand painted and mounted on a rope drum."

Alternate Sgt. Pepper Drumhead Replica

Now available from Beatlesuits.com are reproductions of both Sgt. Pepper drumheads, the well-known album cover head (see image), as well as the much lesser known "alternate head", the original of which is owned by Paul McCartney and hangs in his London home. The original carnival painter consigned to design and paint the heads, Joe Ephgrave, originally designed two different Pepper heads from which the Beatles would choose one for the album cover photo. We reproduce both of them in the original color hues as they appeared when the original heads were freshly painted. The alternate Pepper head was mounted on the back of the red drum you see on the album cover. Because the Beatles chose what became the well-known Pepper logo drumhead that appears on the album cover, only one studio image was taken that day with the drum turned around showing the alternate side (see image).

The Pepper drumheads are available in 24", 26", 28", & 30" sizes.

The price for the Sgt. Pepper drumhead is $265.00 for either the 24" or 26" head and $285.00 for either the 28" or 30" head plus Shipping.

The price on the historically accurate red rope display shell is $225.00 for the 24", 26", and 28" plus Shipping.

The full size 30" display shell is $245.00 plus Shipping.

The production time on the display shells are usually slightly longer than the drumheads,

generally running 4 to 6 weeks at maximum.

Sgt. Pepper Drumhead Replica

The basis for the design and color selection of the album cover head is a set of photographs taken by Sotheby's auction house in 1994 when the original Pepper drumhead was auctioned (thought to have been acquired by McCartney). These images were acquired personally from a Sotheby curator via a consulting business relationship I have with the auction house. The reproductions are done by hand much the same way as the originals, i.e. no silk screening, vinyl stickers, or appliqués. The Pepper heads are labor intensive and require a three week lag time prior to shipment.
